Hardcourt is a funny thing when you look at how rapidly it’s evolving. 3 years ago lots of us thought injection molding was the future of mallet heads, and barely over year before that the thought of a Bike Polo Specific shaft was outrageous. With 2013 came more competition in the product department for our sport than ever before. You can buy so many different shaped heads now, virgin to recycled plastics, black, white, green, pink, custom sublimated, you name it… and it’s awesome! With that new competition came the need for us to think long and hard about what we want to offer, and we’ve always listened to our fans.
The 2500 Ultralite (2.5″ outer diameter), and the 2375 Ultralite (2.375″ outer diameter) feature 4mm walls with a straight ahead design in the middle. Nothing fancy, just a solid performer through and through. The Guardians to the Means have been slaying with this design, not to mention hundreds of others NOT on our roster for 2 seasons now. Now as the game is evolving, players are demanding lighter and lighter gear, and we heard you loud and clear.
The 2500 Tournament head is our answer for those looking for the absolute lightest in durable (4 million molecular weight) UHMW-PE heads. It took a lot of thought and trial & error, but the end result was so simple it was staring us in the face the whole time. We feel a little silly actually. The 2500 Tournament head is simply our 2500 Ultralite model with 1mm of material machined off of the OUTSIDE of the design. This means that you get the same awesome, NAH LEGAL, inside scooping ability, at a ridiculously low 78 grams.
There are a couple things we wanted to share about this new head design because we could have gone lighter or got crazy on the inside shape and dimensions.
We stopped at 78 grams for the simple reason that the ball we are playing with as a sport is 70 grams. Going lighter than the ball is not only sketch in theory, it also feels weird in real life. Hit a baseball with a wiffle ball bat and you’ll see what we mean. At 78 grams, we felt it had an extremely comfortable feel and still had power on the ball.
The walls are 3mm thick and we feel this is the thinnest wall we can go and still have a durable product. That being said we are going to go all the way and say DO NOT DRILL THIS HEAD. You don’t need to, and doing so will absolutely compromise the structure of the head. The connect system, due to it’s convex shallow linear teeth, is the ideal way to mount this head as well, and is highly recommended. The connect is the easiest, and lightest connection system on the market.
As with our other 2 Mallet head offerings, the 2500 Tournament comes with marking holes for 2 extra rotations. We recommend the Ultralite for Pick up and tournaments, and the “Tournament” only for it’s namesake. One size has never fit all in hardcourt, so we’re extremely pleased to be able to offer you 3 solid designs that solve real needs. More options than anyone else, only from Fixcraft.
To further illustrate just how light 78 grams is, we put together this chart of our current offerings. This chart shows you what each drill pattern bring the head weight to. (ea. pattern illustrated reflects the same holes drilled on the opposite side as well.)
