When we released the Fixnut V1 mounting system in 2012 we had no idea how important it would be to our line up. It was without a doubt a surprise hit. It was an amazingly light 9 grams, and allowed for pretty quick and easy mounting of your mallets. But, we knew we could do better for folks who prefer the filed tooth coupler mounting system.
For the 2013 model, the nut is a custom made, tapered chromoly design, with light knurling on the outside to keep it from spinning. This nut has the minimum amount of material needed for the M6 bolt to get a solid joint The knurling allows the bolt to grab onto the inside of the tapered shaft once it’s tightened down. Because of the extremely small size of this nut, here is approximately how much you need to cut off a fresh shaft make them work (shafts vary so results may vary slightly).
LT: cut off 5 cm
XT: cut off 8.5 cm
0.8 mm wall prototype of similar: 3 cm
If you run 0.8 mm wall shafts, this is the ideal solution to allow them to run an M6 bolt. In the pack you also get a half inch steel bolt, and the proper tool. We want to reiterate that the nut and bolt combined weigh only 6.5 grams. It’s light.
WARNING: If you are not familiar with coupler mounting systems, or making mallets in general and are looking for a system that requires no modification, do not buy this product. This product is geared towards the DIY, weight conscious folks in Hardcourt Bike Polo. Fixcraft has a revolutionary 1 piece solution being released in the spring, we recommend those non crafty folks to hold off until then.
